RAWdance's After 5:00 embodies the damage we create, the repairs we attempt…and everything in between. Hissy fits, hysterics, humility and ultimately, homeostasis. Or not, but try again we must. Haunting yet hopeful, this is the most moving, honest and indeed “raw” piece I’ve seen in ages.
Nothing contrived, everything spent. Thanks to long term friends & collaborators Wendy Rein and Ryan T. Smith for absolute perfection. Bonus gratitude for giving us a peek into the trust and exquisite bond you share.
Hope Mohr's Reluctant Light (excerpt) was equally as physical--five dancers interacting with structures that functioned not unlike the apparati in say, an Olympic team gymnastics trial. These simple plexipipe structures also served their roles as passion incubators, confinement & ultimately, much like life, a hodgepodge shape that just works.
Kudos to both companies and ODC for pairing them. Satisfied, but looking forward to the next feast.
