Cool public art project called Flaming Cactus was developed by a team of folks at the Animus Arts Collective and the Hudson Square Connection.
The group chose zip ties because they wanted to show people that it doesn't take a lot of money, education or resources to make art…“and that creativity is something everybody is capable of.”

Found objects and art intersect in multiple ways @ SAM.
A recent trip left me so inspired, I resolve to be more creative in using what’s in front me rather than obsessing about perfect possibilities.
Do Ho Suh is a Korean artist now working in the US. His dog tag suit of armor is a profound statement on the real price that's paid for war. As you can see, these seemingly simple materials presented this way inspire interaction and engagement among visitors.
Ditto for the sculpture in the background--created by Adrian Paci,an Albanian artist forced to flee from his country because of ethnic cleansing. The piece is titled Home to Go and uses roof tiles to reflect the burden of history he continues to carry.
Another artist was inspired by a trip to Ghana where he saw women weaving baskets from found wires. Upon returning home, he created these figures using similar techniques.
Although the architect John Marshall didn't exactly use found objects, he did create pieces based on the landscape and types of native woods available to finish his silver tea sets. Each set was created for a particular house he designed and photos are displayed alongside the sets.

Frank Gehry's designs take my breath away. One of the items on my bucket list is to experience every single one. His City Center creation is a rare commercial venture, but still stunning.

Mood lighting may make everything look better, but it's not enough to zap your bad mood after 4 weeks of Virgin America reservation system screw-ups.
As a United MM (million miler) + American Exec Plat, I decided to use Virgin on a couple of recent short hops. Figured I'd give them a whirl because of the greater codesharing possibilities (at least theoretically) afforded by the recent conversion to SABRE.
Almost a month after the conversion, I wasn't able to check-in online or even at the airport kiosk. Mega-fliers don't take kindly to waiting in lines and they really don't take kindly to being the last one hustled onto the plane, finding their seat duped and being shoved by the FA into a back row middle seat.
Return trip was even worse--no online or kiosk check-in for me, but my colleague (whose ticket I booked on the same reservation as mine) was able to get kiosk check-in. After more lines, my return trip had "disappeared" from the system. All the things frequent fliers hate ensued...more lines, running to the gate and you guessed it...a back seat in the middle row.
With only 43 planes in their system...how could a systems integrator screw this up so badly? You could literally have someone go through each reservation by hand for this small of a fleet.
Oh, but wait...those resources were deployed sending hip apology Tweets. How ironic.
Here's a free operations tip, courtesy of the big boys. Fire your useless IT consultants and when things do go wrong for your passengers, don't shove them into a back row middle seat. Apologize and plop them in one of those cushy (and always empty) First Class seats. Then hand them a cocktail.
